As we reported last week, and only four days of auditions into the US version of ‘X Factor,’ British songstress Cheryl Cole has been fired from the judge’s panel and replaced by Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger. But now more details on the surprise change have surfaced, leaving Cole feeling betrayed and saddened by Simon Cowell‘s decision to fire her from FOX’s American version of the singing competition. People are now even wondering if she will return as a judge on the hugely popular UK edition of ‘X Factor.’
Sources are reporting that Cole spoke out against Cowell last night, saying, “Why did Simon Cowell do this to me?” She also went on to tell a friend: “I still haven’t been given a reason … I’ve had no opportunity whatsoever to prove myself and instead they’ve just cast me aside like a fool.” Yesterday, producers from the UK version of the show were trying to reach Cole in order to discuss her role on the British version of ‘X Factor,’ which starts taping on Wednesday; however, the 27-year-old was refusing to take calls.
An ITV (the British network ‘X Factor’ airs on) commented to Mirror, saying, “It’s tough, but we start filming the UK programme on Wednesday. No one is bigger than the show, that’s what she has to realize. If Cheryl doesn’t want to do it we’ll just go on without her. It’s very worrying that she’s refusing to engage with us. We need a dialogue but she won’t answer the phone. Cheryl needs to call us … People are getting increasingly annoyed at the fact that she doesn’t seem to appreciate the urgency of the situation because the line-up for the show needs to be sorted out.”
A friend of Cole defended the starlet, saying, “It is quite understandable how she feels. There was no reason for her to be sacked. She still doesn’t know why she’s lost her job. How can she be judged after just four days? She felt she was doing OK and getting a good reaction from the public. Now she is facing massive upheaval, a huge change.”
“She had found her own place in L.A. and was ready to move her whole life over there,” the source continues. “Now, without the TV show, all her American plans are over. She has had to move back to Britain and now she is being asked to make one of the biggest decisions she could possibly make. Her life has been turned upside down. At the moment she is trying to work out what to do with her life. If she doesn’t give them an answer and they go with someone else, then they go with someone else.”
Last year, Cole went through a highly-publicized and devastating divorce from English soccer player Ashley Cole, and the firing from ‘X Factor’ isn’t helping her sensitive mental state. “Last year was supposed to be her worst year and this year was supposed to be the best of her life as she conquered America,” a relative of Cole explains. “But it is now looking as bad as last year. It’s a nightmare. Cheryl is in pieces — she hasn’t stopped crying.”
Apparently, Cowell feels bad about letting Cole go, and he has offered her work on another project to try and make amends. “She went over with dreams of cracking America and it hasn’t worked. But she’s a young girl and the move from here to America is like going from playing in small theaters to filling out stadiums. Simon’s got her another job on more money and she needs to get over it and stop sulking,” a source close to Cowell comments.
Cowell and the ‘X Factor’ team at FOX were apparently treating the audition rounds as a trial run for the singer. Sounds like Cole wasn’t fully informed. Stay tuned for more updates on the situation.
