United States: a 4.7 earthquake in Oklahoma
An earthquake measuring 4.7 struck earlier today the State of Oklahoma (center of the United States), a rare event in this part of the country, said the U.S. central géolophysique (USGS).
The quake, which took place at 2:12 (8:12 in France), was nine miles north of the city of Prague. The institute did not mention casualties or damage.
To overcome the limitations of the Richter scale, seismologists, especially Americans, have used the scale so-called "moment magnitude". Designed in 1977, it measures the energy released by an earthquake.
